Newport Team Race Series Format

Format
3v3 team racing.  Register and show up for racing individually with no predetermined teams.  Teams are created weekly based on individuals' rankings in the series using RITRA's Team Generator (patent pending).  Win = 1 point; Loss and DNC = 0 points.  Rankings are fluid and change weekly based on the previous week's results.
Starts will be either rolling 2 or 3min, and races will be run on the digital N or a modified version.  Racing goes until dark (rig your running lights).
Every effort is made to create even teams in advance.  It is critical that sailors advise the series chairperson (tuesdays@ritra.org) as soon as possible if they will be absent or late.  Tentative teams are posted on the Teams link to the left.  It is likely that rosters will need to change between posting and launching, so sailors must check in with the series chairperson on site before launching to confirm their teams.  In the event that a team ends up with only 2 boats, races against it will be 2v2.  The opposing 3-boat team may pick which boat sits out.
Sailors are strongly encouraged to work out their rules differences on the water in the form of voluntary 360s.  However, in the interest of group learning and heckling protests may be heard in the dinghy park after sailing in a very public forum.  The hearing must be called by the protestor and 3-Minutes Justice will be used.  Decisions will be made by vote amongst the crowd.
Fleets
The total number of boats competing each night are split into two fleets, Gold and Silver based on the rankings.  Within each fleet the race committee creates even teams.  Round robin racing is run within each fleet.
Location
The fleet launches out of SailNewport and racing takes place near the southern point of Goat Island.  Allow at least 10 minutes to sail out from the dock
Boats
Bring your own V15, however a limited quantity of charter boats are available through RITRA (see Charters page).  Also, RITRA provides a forum for sailors to find other charter boats or boats for sale (see Forum page).  Competitors are responsible for their own equipment and redresses will not be granted for breakdowns.
